Coffee Shops in Uppingham #StayIndependent

Updated: Feb 26, 2019

Uppingham is a stunning town with mainly independently run shops, restaurants, hotels as well as, so many wonderful coffee shops! The whole reason I started this blog about Rutland was to celebrate and support all the wonderful independent businesses we have around the county. So, I thought why not share a post about the independent coffee houses and lunch spots in Uppingham that you each need to visit whether you're a Rutland resident or visiting the area because they're all pretty special in their own way.

Printers Yard, High Street East, Uppingham

A hidden gem just off Uppingham's High Street ran by Richard. The Courtyard Deli serve quality food and delicious coffee and if you're a foodie, there are also some items you can shop too, which make perfect gifts for the food-lover in the family.

"Richard courtyard deli hands down, he supports all local businesses and is a gem to the high street. Richard the owner is a lovely chap and can make you almost anything at an extremely reasonable price... to take away or eat in. He also has lovely bits to buy like cheeses, herbs and spices, pasta, local cured meat the list is endless." - Chloe Crowther, Rutland Dog Grooming

"I always head to the Courtyard Deli for my takeaway sandwich - the gluten-free rolls are delicious, the best around!" - Florrie Parsons, Curious Designs

High Street West, Uppingham

Baines has recently celebrated 150 years in Uppingham and still holds all the traditional English charm today. Pop in for hot breakfast rolls, cakes, bakes, pastries, soup, salads, sandwiches and of course, coffee - not forgetting the best bread in town!

"The best place for food/cake is Baines (banana cake is my favourite cake ever!) and they are so lovely in there" - Lara Dowes, 10a Beauty

"Why do I love Baines Bakery in Uppingham so much? From the friendly staff to the superb food, this bakery beats all others for me. The bakery is over 150 years old. It produces quality bread, cakes, sandwiches, soups and much more. All of which are made on the premises using no or preservatives or additives. The taste is always amazing. Prices are very low. That's why Baines Bakery is my favourite shop in Rutland. Try one of their amazing cakes with a coffee and sit on a bench and relax. My favourite is banana cake. Moist and tasty, like any slice of cake should be!" - Mark Evans, Rutland Antiques, Uppingham

3. Javawocky

High Street East, Uppingham

Situated at the top of the High Street in Uppingham. It's dog-friendly and has an outdoor area too. Javawocky is popular for its coffee (especially their Chai Lattes), milkshakes and smoothies, but they also do Freak-Shakes which are your child's dream come true! Javawocky can be your lunch stop too with toasties and much more!

High Street East, Uppingham

Don't be put off by the petite space, Scandimania is not to be missed - it's a personal favourite of mine. Scandi (as it's known to the locals) is the perfect destination for the health conscious person who still wants to eat and drink delicious treats. Swedish owner, Julia bakes gluten-free bakes and treats which are delicious - I love the banana bread! Scandi also has a coffee menu to die for with all your traditional favourite and then some more unique ones thrown in there.

It's a great breakfast/lunch spot too with smoothie bowls, toasties and sandwiches - all 'Scandi' inspired of course!

"The best coffee and originality is Scandi, also very friendly in there too! And I love their avocado toast." - Lara Dowes, 10a Beauty

"Hands down, my favourite place for a takeaway coffee when I’m at work has to be Scandimania." - Florrie Parsons, Curious Designs

Market Place, Uppingham

Don Paddy's is your one-stop-shop with brasserie, wine bar, coffee house, restaurant and much more! Dog-friendly through certain parts of the day and offers takeaways and as well as indoor, upstairs and outside seating. Serving the most delicious cocktails, coffee, ales, lagers, cake, breakfast, burgers, open sandwiches etc and not forgetting the children's favourite - a takeaway Don Paddy's hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles!

"My favourite coffee shop has to be Don Paddy's! The staff are lovely, but also you get those yummy biscuits and can have a huge slice of cake to go with it." - Chloe Fowler, Boo's Walking School

Welland Vale Garden Inspirations, Glaston Road, Uppingham

Uppingham's garden centres cafe, The Orchard is another destination which has it all. Take a trip around the garden centre and end with lunch at the cafe. Plenty of seating inside and out with a large menu of deliciousness, including Sunday Lunch, sandwiches and much more.

High Street East, Uppingham

A 16th century inn located in the heart of Uppingham overlooking the Market Place. The Falcon is my favourite place to go for meetings as the calm and relaxing atmosphere is perfect for meeting with clients and friends. Whether you need a place to stay, go for a coffee, have a delicious lunch or sit in a stunning garden - go to The Falcon you won't be disappointed.

I think you'll agree that we're very lucky to have so many independent shops, coffee houses and restaurants that each offer something different and unique and really make the quaint market town of Uppingham stand out from the rest.

Which is your favourite?
