If you're looking for Christmas events in Rutland (or Leicestershire), festive days out with little ones, or somewhere to get a head start on your Christmas shopping, this is one to put on your list.

Because it's officially Christmas at Gates Garden Centre!

I've been visiting Gates at Christmas since I was around Stanley's age, so it's lovely to now take him along and share a tradition that's been part of my own childhood for as long as I can remember.

And the 2026 World of Christmas at Gates is well worth a wander.

This year's theme takes you around the world, with different festive displays to explore, plenty of Christmas decorating inspiration and a few new additions to look out for.

One of the things I love about visiting Gates Garden Centre at Christmas is that there's always something new to discover, even if you've been coming for years.

This year's around-the-world theme brings together different looks and styles, so there's plenty to catch your eye as you make your way around the displays.

Stanley's favourite part was collecting stamps in his very own Christmas passport as we explored.

It's such a lovely little touch for children, giving them something to look out for along the way. And if you're visiting with toddlers or younger children, having a little activity to keep them engaged makes the experience even more fun.

For me, one of the standout additions was the new Parisian chic section.

Think Chanel-inspired touches and a rather stylish take on Christmas decorating. It made me smile, and it's a good example of the different themes you'll find as you explore.

Whether you're a fan of traditional Christmas decorations or prefer something a little more unusual, there's plenty to see.

There's plenty of choice this year, with baubles starting from just £1.99.

Whether you're adding a few new pieces to your tree or planning a completely different look for Christmas 2026, there's something to suit different budgets.

I always think it's lovely to pick up a few new decorations each year, particularly when they become part of your own family Christmas traditions.

One of my favourite things to look out for is the Lemax model village display.

If you've visited before, you'll be pleased to hear that it's had a little extension for 2026, giving you even more of those intricate miniature festive scenes to look at.

It's one of those displays that appeals to all ages. Little ones can enjoy spotting the details, while grown-ups can appreciate just how much work goes into putting it all together.

The Christmas Barn is always worth a visit, and there are new additions to explore this year, too.

There's plenty more to look at throughout the garden centre and farm shop, including gifting ideas and festive treats.

If you're starting to think about Christmas presents, it's worth having a browse.

If you're visiting at the weekend, look out for the Roaming Giraffe Events Dutch Pancakes truck, which is on the Barn Walkway from now until Christmas.

It's definitely worth planning a festive day out at Gates. You can have a wander around the Christmas displays, explore the Barn, browse the decorations and pick up a few treats from the farm shop.

And for those of us who have been visiting since childhood, there's something rather special about returning year after year and seeing what has changed.

Gates Garden Centre has been part of my Christmas traditions for years, and I'm glad it's becoming part of Stanley's, too.

If you're planning a family day out in Rutland or Leicestershire this festive season, I'd definitely add it to your list.
